Rams turn up volume in second half down #9 LSU-Shreveport, 109-100

     SHREVEPORT, La. -
Junior Khayri McKinney scored 17 of his 26 points in the second half to lead Texas Wesleyan past #9 LSU-Shreveport, 109-100, Monday evening at the Dock.

     "This is a milestone victory for this program," head coach Terry Waldrop said. "It has been a while since Wesleyan has beaten someone of such stature on the road."

     This was only LSU-Shreveport's second loss at home in the last two years.

     LSU-Shreveport (10-5) shot 50 percent from the floor and grabbed 14 offensive rebounds to take a 56-46 lead into the break. Wesleyan cut the once 20-point lead to 10, with the help of a half-court shot at the buzzer by sophomore Nino Etienne.

     Texas Wesleyan (8-5) rebounded in the second half to shoot an amazing 61 percent from the floor, while canning 9-of-18 three-pointers en route to its fourth straight victory.

     "This team is starting to learn how to play with one another and it is exciting," Waldrop said. "With experience comes consistency."

     The Rams finished with five players in double figures with McKinney's 26 points leading the way, to go along with his game-high eight assists. Senior Tommy Johnson had a great all-around game registering 24 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Junior Ben Hunt continued his outstanding shooting going 7-of-11 from the field for 24 points and dishing out six assists. Juniors Brad Schilder and Scott Reasoner both chipped in with 13 points each, while Schilder had a team-high 10 rebounds.

     LSU-Shreveport's Fredericko Payne led all scorers with 34 points, while Derrick Sowell chipped in with 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

     Texas Wesleyan shot 55 percent (35-64) from the floor and 85 percent (23-27) from the free-throw line. The Rams also shot 44 percent (16-36) from behind the arc.

     LSU-Shreveport shot 44 percent (38-86) from the field and 83 percent (15-18) from the charity stripe. The Pilots also shot 25 percent (9-36) from the three-point line.

     The Pilots outrebounded the Rams, 41-40, and forced Texas Wesleyan into 18 turnovers.

     Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Saturday when they travel to take on conference-rival Paul Quinn. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. in Dallas.
