FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Wesleyan
turned the ball over 18 times as they fell to Texas College, 77-69,
Thursday evening in Red River Athletic Conference action.
Texas Wesleyan (10-6, 6-2 RRAC) started
off hot, taking a 16-6 lead at the 15:15 mark of the first half.
Junior Scott Reasoner had the hot hand, connecting on his first
four shots, which included a trey, for nine points.
Texas College (7-9, 4-3 RRAC) fought back with
a 31-20 run over the next to take its first lead, 37-36, with 2:11
remaining in the first half. Mario Kinsey led the way with 12 first-half
points and five assists.
In the second half, the Rams got things
going, taking a 52-48 lead with 14:27 remaining. Junior Ben Hunt
keyed the quick run with five points.
The Steers took the lead right back with
a 9-0 run over the next four minutes. Antron Moore scored four points
during the stretch.
The Rams cut the lead to 64-63 with 5:44
remaining, but the Steers closed the game out on a 13-6 run to give
Texas Wesleyan its first loss in seven games.
Reasoner and junior Brad Schilder led the
Rams with 14 points each. Hunt finished with 12 points, eight rebounds
and four assists.
Kinsey led Texas College with 19 points
and six assists, while Moore added 22 points and seven rebounds.
Texas Wesleyan shot 41 percent (25-61)
from the floor and 65 percent (13-20) from the charity stripe. The
Rams also shot 21 percent (6-29) from the three-point line.
Texas College shot 44 percent (35-80) from
the field and 33 percent (2-6) from the free-throw line. The Steers
also shot 25 percent (5-20) from behind the arc.
Texas Wesleyan will be back in action Thursday
when they host conference-rival UT-
Permian Basin. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Sid Richardson
Gymnasium. The Rams defeated the Falcons twice last season.
