AUSTIN, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (5-6, 2-2 RRAC) took a convincing 92-50 win at Huston-Tillotson University (1-9, 1-4) in Red River Athletic Conference action on Monday.
The Rams started hot and never looked back. A three-pointer from CJ Higginbotham gave the Rams a double figure lead, 21-11, which they would never relinquish. That shot came in the midst of a 20-2 run that the Rams used to close out the half. They went to the locker room with a comfortable 33-14 lead.
H-TU was unable to slow the Wesleyan attack in the second half as the Rams shot 54% (20-37) in the frame including 50% (7-14) from long range. A three-pointer from Muhammad Abdullah gave the Rams their largest lead of the contest at 85-41 en route to the 92-50 win.
For the game, Texas Wesleyan shot 47% while holding Huston-Tillotson to just 29.5% from the floor. Wesleyan also shot 46% from behind the arc and 81% from the charity stripe, while winning the battle of the boards 54-26.
Kharyi McKinney led the offensive barrage with 30 points, while Ben Hunt scored 18 and CJ Higginbotham finished with 13. Freshman forward Andrew Bradford recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds to go with 6 assists. H-TU’s Doug Krouse led his team with 14 points.
The Rams return to the Sid Richardson Center when they host Texas A&M International on Saturday, January 14. That game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by a women’s game.
