RAMS WIN AT JARVIS
January 28, 2006

HAWKINS, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (11-6, 8-2 RRAC) took its 8th consecutive win on Saturday by defeating Jarvis Christian College (10-8, 6-5) by a score of 84-70, snapping the Bulldog’s five-game winning streak.

The Rams came out scorching hot against a Bulldog team that scored a 79-71 upset over Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth earlier this season.  Texas Wesleyan turned the ball over 11 times in the first half, but 71% shooting from the floor and 50% shooting from long range gave the Rams a commanding 48-29 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Rams led by as many as 20 points.  However, the Bulldogs chipped away and cut the lead down to seven at 68-61 with 7:28 on the clock.  The Rams responded with an 11-0 run over the next two minutes, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Khayri McKinney, to take a 79-61 lead.  From there, Texas Wesleyan coasted to the 84-70 victory.

“We came in and set the tone in a game we had to win,” said head coach Terry Waldrop.  “They are a good team with good players, but we responded the way we needed to on the road.”

Five Rams reached double-figures, led by McKinney’s 21.  Ben Hunt and Scott Reasoner each finished with 18, while Evan Patterson scored 10.  Nino Etienne recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.  Jarvis was led by Demarion Crite’s 22 points.  Alexander Hatch finished with 18.

The Rams return to action on Monday, January 30, when they travel to Marshal, TX, to take on Wiley College in Red River Athletic Conference action.  That game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by a men’s game.
