AUSTIN, TX: Five three-pointers from Kennith Gober brought the Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (13-6, 6-0 RRAC) back from a 12-point second half deficit as the Rams topped Huston-Tillotson University (2-14, 1-4) by a score of 70-64.
In the first half, Huston-Tillotson scored 18 points off of 15 Texas Wesleyan turnovers and led 31-26 at the break.
In the second half, HTU led 50-38 with just over eleven minutes to play, when Texas Wesleyan made its move. The Rams took the lead with a 16-4 run highlighted by three treys from Gober.
The lead then changed hands five more times before a pair of free throws from Dalane Finley put the Rams ahead for good at 65-64.
With the Rams leading by three, 67-64, with five seconds to play, Aaron Scott rebounded an HTU miss and was fouled. After a technical foul was assessed to Huston-Tillotson, Scott knocked down three of his four free throws to account for the 70-64 final.
The Rams outshot HTU 54%-41% and led 36-27 in rebounds.
Gober led the way with 19 points. Fred Eshon added 12 for Texas Wesleyan, and Dane Dmitrovic filled the stat sheet with seven points, six assists, and 13 rebounds.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, January 26, when they host Wiley College. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off in the Sid Richardson Center. |
