DALLAS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (17-9, 10-3 RRAC) fell just short in a Red River Athletic Conference contest at Paul Quinn College (11-12, 7-6). The Tigers outlasted the Rams 77-74.
Paul Quinn shot 52% from the floor and 55% (6-11) from long range on their way to a 48-37 lead at the half. After ten lead changes in the frame, the Tigers rolled off eight unanswered points to take a 35-27 lead. The margin remained eight when Damien Chisholm hit his third three-pointer with five seconds remaining to send the Tigers to the locker room up eleven.
In the second half, the Rams continued to chip away at the lead, closing the gap to single digits on several occasions.
Texas Wesleyan came on strong down the stretch, using an 11-2 run over a five minute span to close the gap to 70-68 with under two minutes to play.
With 13 seconds to play, Kennith Gober was fouled on a three-point attempt and hit two-of-three to bring the score to 76-74. Paul Quinn’s Jazz Henderson then hit 1-of-2 at the line to give the Rams a chance. However Fred Eshon’s three at the buzzer just missed its mark and Paul Quinn escaped with the 77-74 win.
The Rams dominated the galss, 38-29, but 21 Texas Wesleyan turnovers led to 22 points for the Tigers.
Dane Dmitrovic finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. Gober added 12 points and Eshon finished with 11 for the Rams. Henderson led all scorers with 24 while Damien Chisholm added 22 for the Tigers.
The Rams will return to action on Monday, when they host Huston-Tillotosn Univeristy in their final home game of the season. That contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start. |
