RAMS WIN BIG IN QUARTERFINALS
March 6, 2008

Box Score

WAXAHACHIE, TX:  Texas Wesleyan University’s opening round match up of the Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament was all that a #1 vs. #8 contest should be.  The Rams (20-10) routed the Bacone College Warriors (10-18) by a score of 83-64 at Southwestern Assemblies of God University’s Full Life Center.

In the first half, the Rams shot 64% from the field and 55% from long range as they never trailed on their way to a 40-27 halftime lead.  Fred Eshon led the hot shooting Rams.  Eshon did not miss a shot from the field going a perfect 6-for-6 including 4-for-4 from downtown for 16 first half points.

The Rams wasted no time pulling away in the second half.  A 10-2 run to start the period put Texas Wesleyan up 21 points at 50-29, and the Rams went on to lead by as many as 23, 68-45.

For the game, Texas Wesleyan shot 60% from the field and 57% from long range, while holding the Warriors to 31% and 24%.

Kennith Gober filled the stat sheet with a game-high 26 points while hitting seven three-pointers.  Gober added nine assists and six rebounds to an impressive performance.  Dane Dmitrovic posted 19 points and 10 rebounds while Dalane Finley had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Eshon finished with 20 points and seven assists for Texas Wesleyan.

Bacone was led by Skylar Whitfield’s 23 points while Chivas Miller put up 18.

With the win, the Rams have advanced to Friday’s semifinal where they will meet fifth seeded Langston University.  That game will be played at 1:00 p.m. at SAGU’s Full Life Center.

Langston advanced by defeating Paul Quinn College 86-84 on a Ralph Hishaw dunk with three seconds to play.  The Rams swept the regular season series with the Lions winning 64-63 in Fort Worth in January on a pair of free throws from Fred Eshon with five seconds to play, and 60-58 in Langston, OK, in February on a buzzer-beating tip-in from Kennith Gober.
