DENTON, TX: The Texas Woman’s University Softball team (15-30) swept a doubleheader from Texas Wesleyan University (5-24) at Pioneer Field on Wednesday. The Pioneers narrowly escaped with a 3-2 win in game one before taking game two 6-1.
In game one, Ashley Oldham held the Pioneers at bay for much of the contest. A one out walk cost the right-hander a run in the first inning, and the Pioneers went ahead 2-0 with a solo home run from Tiffanie Boone in the third.
In the fifth inning, the Rams tied things up. Tara Martinez and Alyssa Cherry led off with consecutive singles before scoring on base hits from Hayley Butler and Brooke McNabb.
In the bottom of the fifth, Ashley Martin doubled and scored the go ahead run.
Oldham (2-10) allowed three runs after scattering seven hits across six innings of work. Carly Case (9-11) allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out seven in seven innings pitched to pick up the win.
Ariel Raley led the Rams at the plate going 2-for-3 in the contest.
In game two, the Rams loaded the bases with one out in the second, but came away with only one run. Texas Woman’s answered with two in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the fifth and sixth innings as well.
After the second inning threat, Allie Parker (3-14) allowed just one base runner on her way to picking up the win with a complete game effort. Ashley Tarrant (2-3) suffered the loss after allowing six runs, five earned on ten hits while striking out five in 5.2 innings pitched.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Sunday, April 6, when they host Northwood University in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start at Sycamore Park. |
