FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (6-25, 5-7 RRAC) split with conference rival Northwood University (20-15, 11-3 RRAC) on Sunday at Sycamore Park. Texas Wesleyan dropped game one to the Knights 7-0, but bounced back and took game two by a score of 7-3.
In game one the Lady Rams couldn’t get the bats going as their only hit came from Brooke McNabb who singled to left in the sixth.
Taylor Wood picked up the loss for the Lady Rams in the 7-0 loss.
In game two, sophomore right hander Ashley Oldham took the game into her own hands as she threw all seven innings, faced 30 batters, gave up three runs, all earned, on seven hits and one strike out.
The Lady Rams scored four runs in the home half of the first inning that started with a single from Ariel Raley to move McNabb in scoring position. The Lady Rams poured it on with help from Elizabeth Brady, Tara Martinez, and Tana Park, who all had RBI singles.
The Lady Knights answered in the top of the sixth when Northwood’s Paula Davis hit a two run home run to make it 5-2 Texas Wesleyan.
The Lady Rams tacked on some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth with help from a lead off pinch hit single to left by freshman Haley Butler. Lauren Garza singled and McNabb put down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over. Raley hit a sacrifice RBI and Brady doubled to bring the score to 7-2 Texas Wesleyan.
Northwood could only manage one run in the top of the seventh as the Lady Rams shut the door on a possible comeback to win the game 7-3.
The Lady Rams continue conference play as they take on Langston University on Monday, April 7, 2008 at Sycamore Park. Game one of the double header scheduled for 1 pm. |
