Box Score - Game One Box Score - Game Two HOUSTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (8-27) was swept in a doubleheader at NCAA Division I Houston Baptist University (24-12) on Saturday. The Huskies took game one 11-0 and game two 10-6.
The Huskies plated six runs on three hits, two walks, and an error in the first inning of game one. That was plenty of support for Kristi Malpass who moved to 16-6 on the season with the win.
HBU went on to add two runs in the third and three more in the fourth for the 11-0 win.
After trailing 7-1 in game two, Texas Wesleyan made things interesting in the fourth inning. The Rams loaded the bases with no outs when Taylor Wood cleared the bases with a single that got by the Huskies’ left fielder. Later in the frame Lauren Garza singled, advanced on a bunt single from Nataly Chavez, and scored on a passed ball.
The Huskies extended their lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the sixth.
Texas Wesleyan added an RBI double from Haley Butler to cap the scoring in the top of the seventh.
Cami Riley (0-2) allowed 10 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits in six inning pitched. Chavez went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Rams.
Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Wednesday, April 16, when they travel to Hawkins, TX, to take on Jarvis Christian College. Game one is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start. |
