INDIANAPOLIS, IN: The Texas Wesleyan University golf team was one shot away from forcing a three-way playoff at Indiana Wesleyan’s NAIA Classic at the Brickyard Crossing.
Lindenwood University shot a final round 291 to catch first round leader Berry College at 606 for the tournament. Berry then won in a playoff. The Rams shot a second round 305 and finished one shot off the pace at 607.
Trevor Bowman of Cedarville took the individual title with 36-hole score of 148 (73, 75).
Texas Wesleyan’s Mitch Hendon was two shots back and tied for sixth at 150 (76, 74). Kevin Doskocil tied for ninth at 151 (74, 77), while Armando Villarreal just missed the top ten and finished tied for 14th with a card of 152 (76, 76).
Paco Sarach (82, 78), and Carlos Arenas (76, 84) tied for 45th in the field of 75 individuals with scores of 160.
The tournament was the final regular season tune-up for the Rams who will play in the very tough NAIA Region VI tournament next weekend. That tournament, April 21-22, will be hosted by Lubbock Christian University at Hillcrest Country Club in Lubbock, TX.
The 12th ranked Rams are one of six Region VI squads ranked in the NAIA’s top-20.
