HAWKINS, TX: It was all Texas Wesleyan in a Red River Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Jarvis Christian College (0-12, 0-12 RRAC) on Wednesday. The Lady Rams (10-27, 9-7) swept the twin bill with scores of 17-0 and 25-0. After Ashley Tarrant tossed a no-hitter in game one, the Rams set school records with 25 runs, 30 hits, and 24 RBI in game two.
In game one, Ashley Tarrant fired the first no-hitter since Michelle Jones turned the trick against College of the Southwest on senior day at Sycamore Park last season. Tarrant (3-3) allowed just one base-runner on a second inning walk while striking out 11 Bulldogs in five innings of work.
Meanwhile the Rams pounded out 25 hits while every hitter in the lineup collected at least two knocks. Tana Park and Haley Butler led the way. Park was 4-for-5 with two RBI and four runs scored while Butler was 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Elizabeth Brady added a pair of hits and four RBI.
In game two Rayne Reynolds shut down the Bulldogs. Reynolds allowed just one hit while striking out eight in four innings of work.
The Rams led 9-0 after three inning before the record setting route occurred in the fourth. In the fourth, Texas Wesleyan sent 20 hitters to the plate and scored 16 runs on 15 hits including a three-run homer from Taylor Wood. The Rams also took advantage of two Bulldogs errors in the inning.
Alyssa Cherry became the third Lady Ram in school history to hit safely five times in a game. Cherry was 5-for-5 with three RBI and four runs scored. Meanwhile Taylor Wood set a new school record with nine RBI. Wood went 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, a home run, and four runs scored. Park added another four-hit performance, going 4-for-6 for the Lady Rams. Pitcher Cami Riley got in on the act by going 3-for-3 after entering the game as a pinch-hitter in the third inning.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday when they host College of the Southwest at Sycamore Park. Game one of that RRAC doubleheader is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. first pitch. |
