LUBBOCK, TX: The 12th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team is in sixth place after two rounds at the ultra-tough Region VI Tournament at Hillcrest Country Club. The competition features six teams ranked in the NAIA’s top-20 and four in the top-10. The Rams are in second place in the Red River Athletic Conference Championship which is being held concurrently with the Region VI competition.
The Rams shot two rounds of 299 and are just two shots out of third place at 598 overall. Top ranked Oklahoma City University and ninth 9th ranked Wayland Baptist University are tied for the lead at 574. Oklahoma City’s Anthony Michael shot 67, 71, to lead the field at 138.
Northwood University, ranked 19th nationally, leads the RRAC competition at 597. The Knight’s Lucas Bogdan leads all Red River competitors at 143 through 36-holes.
Texas Wesleyan was led by Armando Villarreal who shot 71, 74, and is tied for tenth at 145. Stuart Martin shot 150 (T21), Paco Saracho 151 (T27), Mitch Hendon 154 (T35) and Kevin Doskocil 155 (T41) for the Rams. Carlos Arenas, playing as a medalist, shot 149 and is tied for 16th. Villarreal’s 145 places him second in the RRAC competition.
The Rams will complete the third and final round on Tuesday.
