ARLINGTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (35-12), ranked 19th in the NAIA, held a 4-0 lead over NCAA Division I UT-Arlington in the third inning when the game was called due to lightning.
With two outs in the first inning, Butch Ballez doubled in front of a two-run bomb off the bat of Zach Smith. In the third inning, Brandon Frazier reached on an error, stole second and scored on another double from Ballez. Smith followed with an RBI single to run the score to 4-0.
In the bottom of the third the game had to be stopped because of lightning as a severe thunderstorm was moving into the area.
Texas Wesleyan starter, Jayson Rachuig, allowed just two singles while striking out four in two plus innings of work.
The game has not yet been rescheduled. The Mavericks entered Wednsday’s game red-hot having won eight of their last nine including a 7-3 win over Oklahoma State and a 4-3 victory at the University of Texas.
The Rams will travel to Alexandria, LA, on Saturday for a doubleheader with LSU-Alexandria. Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start. |
