FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball head coach Terry Waldrop announced today the signing of Chris Berry, a transfer student from St. Francis University.
Berry was a two time All-Northeastern Conference selection at NCAA Division I St. Francis University. In his junior year he led head coach Bobby Jones’ Red Flash with 11.2 points per game while ranking second on the squad with 6.3 points per game. As a sophomore he averaged 11.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
In his first Division I game he scored 13 points and grabbed five boards in a win over Lock Haven. He later scored a career-high 25 points against Robert Morris.
Berry played his freshman season at Lon Morris College where he averaged 11 points per game and led the Bearcats to a 25-7 record.
The Dallas native originally signed with Texas A&M University after leading Seagoville High School to a 33-3 record. He was also named MVP of the district tournament, which SHS won.
“This is a proven Division I player,” Waldrop said. “He led his Division I team in scoring last year, and we think he has a chance to be one of the most productive players in the country next year.”
The 2007-08 Rams posted a 20-12 overall record. At 12-4 in conference play they won the Red River Athletic Conference regular season title and earned a bid to the NAIA National tournament with a final national ranking of 18th. |
