BARTLESVILLE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (3-2) suffered a 79-65 loss on Monday as Oklahoma Wesleyan University remained unbeaten at 6-0 on the season.
Texas Wesleyan’s scheme of multiple zone defenses held Oklahoma Wesleyan to a paltry 28% shooting in the first half. However, the Eagles out scored the Rams 11-4 at the free throw line in the period and went to the locker room tied at 32.
In the second half, the Eagles could not be held down. Oklahoma Wesleyan shot 55% while the Rams managed just 39% from the field.
The difference in the game came at the charity stripe where the Eagles helped themselves by hitting 22-of-28, while Texas Wesleyan hit just 14-of-25.
Dane Dmitrovic continued to play well, turning in a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman guard Ryan Barnes led the team with 13 points in just under 15 minutes of play off the Texas Wesleyan bench. Aaron Scott added eight points and four assists for the Rams.
Four Eagles reached double-figures in scoring led by Austin Johsnon who scored 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from long range and a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
The Rams will get another shot at the Eagles in their next home game. That contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start on Monday, December 10. The Rams next contest will be on Thursday, November 29, when they visit neighboring UT-Arlington for an exhibition contest.
