RAMS WRAP UP CLIFFORD CLASSIC:

PILOTS STAY PERFECT
December 15, 2007

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team (6-4) wrapped up play at the first annual Clifford Christmas Classic on Saturday.  Unfortunately the Rams came up on the short end of an 88-60 game with 5th ranked LSU-Shreveport (11-0).

In the first game of the day, Southwestern Assemblies of God University (6-8) upset Belhaven College (8-3) 74-68.  Jake Sones led the Lions to the victory with 24 points.

Prior to the start of game-two, Texas Wesleyan honored Patsy Clifford.  The Rams named the tournament after Marty and Patsy Clifford in honor of their many years of support of athletics at Texas Wesleyan.  The University lost a beloved friend this fall with the passing of Marty Clifford.

Unfortunately Rams fans did not have much to cheer about after the opening tip.  LSUS jumped ahead 30-8 and led 55-26 at the half.  The Pilots hit each of their first five three point attempts and ripped seven in the first half.  Josh Porter put up 24 of his game-high 33 points in the first frame.

Fred Eshon led the Rams with 17 points off the bench.  Kennith gober added 16 points for Texas Wesleyan.  The Rams still lead the all-time series between the two schools 7-3.

The Rams will have to get the loss out of their system quickly as they return to the court on Monday.  Texas Wesleyan will host Wesley College at 7:30 p.m. in the Sid Richardson Center.
