RAMS RELEASE HOOPS SCHEDULE
August 12, 2008

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team has released its schedule for the 2008-09 season.

The Rams will open the season at perennial NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma Christian University on November 8.  That is just the start of one of the toughest fall schedules in the country.

Texas Wesleyan will play five contests against teams from last year’s NAIA National Tournament field, including a pair of games against an LSU-Shreveport team that was ranked fourth in the final regular season coaches’ poll.  The home opener will be against Oklahoma Baptist University on November 21.  The Bison were ranked 17th in last year’s final poll and advanced to the elite eight of the NAIA National Tournament.

The Rams will host a pair of tournaments in the fall.  Texas Wesleyan’s Thanksgiving Classic (Nov. 28-29) will feature Oklahoma Christian, LSU-Shreveport, and fellow Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) member Paul Quinn College.  For the 2nd annual Clifford Christmas Classic (Dec. 12-13) the Rams welcome back Belhaven College.  The Blazers were ranked 29th last year when the Rams took a 79-72 win. Rhema Bible College and RRAC newcomer College of the Southwest round out the field.

The Rams will wrap up their non-conference schedule with back-to-back exhibition games against NCAA Division I competition.  They will take on Stephen F. Austin State University on December 29, and UT-San Antonio on January 5.

The conference schedule has the Rams primed to make a run at a second straight regular season title as seven of their last nine games come at home.

Last year the Rams posted a 20-12 overall record.  At 12-4 in conference play they won the Red River Athletic Conference regular season title and earned a bid to the NAIA National tournament with a final national ranking of 18th.
