OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (1-2) split a pair of matches at the Oklahoma City Classic hosted by Oklahoma City University on Friday. The Rams took a 3-1 win over St. Gregory’s University (0-1) and then fell in four games at the hands of College of the Ozarks (1-0).
Against St. Gregory’s the Lady Rams dominated the first two games with wins of 25-13 and 25-9. The Cavaliers bounced back for a 25-23 win in game three before Texas Wesleyan closed the match out with a 25-9 win in game-four.
Rachel Daniel notched a match-high 17 kills and six blocks. Emily Millican had 30 assists, and Katlynn Romig notch 16 digs.
Against College of the Ozarks, the Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead with scores of 25-22 and 25-18. The Rams got back into the match with a 26-24 win in game-three, but fell 25-20 in game-four.
Brittney Person had a team-high 12 kills to go with seven digs. Millican finished with 26 assists, and Romig added 14 digs.
“We played a strong match against St. Gregory’s with a little bit of a mental lapse in game three,” commented head coach Christy Clawson. “We were right there with Ozarks, but we had trouble finishing. We are a very young team that just needs to gain some experience.”
The Lady Rams will continue action at the Oklahoma City Classic on Saturday. They will play Dakota Wesleyan University at 9:00 a.m. and Oklahoma Baptist University at 5:00 p.m. |
