Box Score - vs. Oklahoma Baptist
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (1-4) lost its final two matches at the Oklahoma City Classic on Saturday. The Lady Rams fell 3-0 to Dakota Wesleyan University (2-1) and 3-1 to Oklahoma Baptist University (2-2).
Against Dakota Wesleyan the Rams made 10 attacking errors in game one, but kept the game close, 25-20. Dakota Wesleyan rallied from down 23-17 in game two to win 25-23, and rode that momentum to a 25-19 win in the final game.
Emily Millican had 21 assists and Kristen Venhuizen added 10 digs in the loss.
Against Oklahoma Baptist, the Rams played four very tight games. Texas Wesleyan took game one 25-22, but fell in game two by the same score. The Bison won game three 25-21, and then closed the match with a 25-18 win.
Brittney Person led the Rams with 14 kills. Millican had 29 assists, and Lauren Hinojos added 19 digs.
“This team has the talent, but we are lacking the leadership when things get tough,” said head coach Christy Clawson. “We need to learn to hate to lose, and someone has to step up when things are not going our way.”
The Lady Rams return to the court in next weekend’s Texas Woman’s University Tournament. Texas Wesleyan will play Pittsburg State University at 10:00 a.m. and Cameron University at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5. |
