ABILENE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team sits in fourth place after one round at Abilene Christian University’s Charles Coody Intercollegiate at Diamond Back Golf Course.
The Rams, rated 7th in the Golf World/Nike Golf Preseason NAIA Coaches’ Poll, opened their season with a first round score of 292. St. Edward’s University had three players break 70 and hold a commanding lead at 276. Abilene Christian (284) and Cameron University (286) checked in at second and third.
Kevin Doskocil led the way for the Rams. The senior from Hillsboro, TX, turned in a card of 70 and is tied for seventh. Armando Villareal is at 72 (T13), while Carlos Arenas and Stuart Martin both shot rounds of 75 to tie for 29th. Paco Saracho rounded out Texas Wesleyan’s card with a score of 77 (T46).
A trio of players hold the individual lead at three-under par 68. Matt Smith and Collin Mayer of St. Edwards are tied with Abilene Christian’s Patrick Hanauer.
The Rams will take part in final round action on Tuesday.
