FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Kristen Venhuizen was named Red River Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the period of September 8-14. Her teammate Katlynn Romig was named Libero of the Week and Emily Millican earned Co-Setter of the Week honors.
Venhuizen, a sophomore outside hitter from Austin, TX, delivered a solid effort as the Lady Rams dropped four matches against top NAIA competition at the Hastings College (NE) Classic. She compiled eight kills and 16 digs against 20th-ranked Hastings and totals of eight and 12 against #14 Dordt College (IA). In all, Venhuizen had 21 kills and 51 digs.
Romig, a freshman from Mansfield, TX, registered 67 digs (6.70 per game) for the Lady Rams. She had 20 digs against Hastings and 21 against Dordt for her best showings. Romig only had three errors in 78 receiving attempts with a reception percentage of .962 for the week.
Millican, a freshman setter from Red Oak, TX, is recognized for the second consecutive week with 69 assists in the Lady Rams’ four matches or 5.75 per game. Her best outings came with 25 assists against Hastings and 22 against Dordt. She also contributed 31 digs.
Millican shared her award with Eloisa Nava of Houston-Tillotson University (TX).
The Lady Rams will return to action in next weekend’s 2nd-annual Hughes-Wesleyan Volleyball Classic. Due to continued renovations of the Sid Richardson Center, that tournament has been moved to Texas Advantage Volleyball’s Advantage Sports Complex in Fort Worth.
Texas Wesleyan will take on Faulkner University (12:00 p.m.) and Lubbock Christian Univeristy (4:00 p.m.) on Friday, Septebmer 19, and John Brown University (12:00 p.m.) and Oklahoma City University (4:00 p.m.) on Saturday, September 20.
