FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SUMMER READING CLINIC FOR KIDS

Are you looking for enriching activities for your children this summer? Would you like the activities to be FREE? The School of Education’s Summer Reading Clinic is open to children, ages 5 – 12, who need help with reading and writing or just want to have fun and maintain or improved their skills over the summer break. The clinic runs July 11 to 26 and meets from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The children will be taught by Master Reading Teachers completing their master's degree in reading in Texas Wesleyan’s Graduate Education Program. Depending on the number of children in the program, instruction will vary from one to three children per teacher.

The teachers will conduct a variety of assessments on the children and then plan lessons accordingly.  Texas Wesleyan students conference with the parents in order to determine their concerns for their children.  The focus of the clinic is on reading and writing, and with the main purpose that it be FUN for the children!  The clinic concludes with an "Author's Tea" on July 26. Families are invited to attend this important event, a time to showcase the children's work. They will read stories, poems they've written, and books they've read.

For more information or to sign up your child, please call Lisa Dryden at (817) 531-4961.
