Texas Wesleyan Receives $40,000 Grant from THECB
Texas Wesleyan is the recipient of a $40,000 grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) under their Work-Study Mentorship Grant program. One of 32 institutions funded statewide, the problems and challenges addressed in this proposal are two-fold: 1) increasing college going rates of several area high schools by providing information for high school students and their families not only about the importance of attending and graduating from college but also the “how to”; and 2) increasing retention rates of current college students serving as G-Force mentors thereby assisting in their efforts to successfully graduate with a bachelor's degree. Funds will support our student G-Force members working in our partner high schools (Polytechnic, Castleberry, and North Crowley). Current evaluation findings by the state of Texas have shown that providing financial support to Collegiate G-Force Mentors has increased the number of students who are pursuing and being retained in higher education, which assists the state in its efforts to address the goals of the Closing the Gaps by 2015 campaign.

| Survey: Does Your Department Work with the Fort Worth ISD?
John Gonzales, community outreach coordinator at Texas Wesleyan, is compiling a list of events and activities that the University does to support the Fort Worth Independent School District. The information will be shared with a FWISD Community Action Team that is meeting to assess the assistance FWISD is receiving from the community. Action from this information has yet to be determined. If your department does such events or activities, please forward a list to John Gonzales (jgonzales@txwes.edu). Contact him at 817-531-7591 with any questions. |
