Scholarships Available to International Students International Programs is pleased to announce the restructuring and enhancement of the international scholarships. The following scholarships are offered through the International Programs office in coordination with the Financial Aid office. Scholarships are renewable for the number of semesters needed to complete the program of study (with a maximum of 8 semesters) provided the student meets the required yearly cumulative GPA and hours of service maintenance. Students' grade points and service activities will be reviewed at the end of each semester when students will provide the Director of International Programs with a list of their activities for the semester. Performance Based Scholarships In addition to the academic scholarships, students with outstanding abilities in athletics or fine arts and with a 3.5 GPA or above may be eligible for performance-based scholarships. Performance-based scholarships are awarded through the athletic or fine arts department of the student's talent. Questions: 1) Can I have more than one Scholarship? No. However, you can combine an international academic scholarship and Fine Arts or Athletic scholarship provided you meet the criteria for each and you have a 3.5 GPA. You can also receive a Room Grant along with an international academic scholarship. 2) Can I apply my scholarship to summer semester? It depends - if that summer semester is your final semester of school and if you let the International Programs Office know by the semester before. 3) Can I receive a full academic year scholarship if I graduate in December? No. You will receive only half the academic year award for the scholarship. 4) Can I receive a scholarship if I take concurrent enrollment at another college? No, if you receive a Freshman Academic Scholarship. Partially, if you receive a Transfer Academic Scholarship. If you are enrolled in 9-11 hours at Wesleyan, you can receive 60% of your transfer scholarship; if you are enrolled in 6-8 hours at Wesleyan, you can receive only 40% of your transfer scholarship. To retain your scholarship, you must meet the required GPA and be active in the International Club and International Week. 5) What are the maintenance requirements for the scholarships? The first requirement is that you carry a full academic load (12 hrs undergraduate / 9 hrs graduate). The second is that you maintain the grade point for the scholarship you receive. The third is that you remain civically eligible by participating in service activities at the university. Examples of service activities are participating in the International Club and its activities, hosting a booth at the International Fair, speaking to a group on or off campus, etc. 6) What happens if my GPA or service requirements are not met? If you fail to maintain the required GPA or maintenance service activities one semester, you will be placed on a semester’s probation. If you meet the requirements the following semester, you are taken off probation. If you fail to meet the GPA/service requirements the next semester, you will not receive a scholarship again. |
