Because we believe residence hall experience compliments classroom learning, we hope that you will choose to live on campus. A full range of activities are planned to accommodate various interests – from such leisure activities as board games, intramural sports, movies, pool and volleyball tournaments, to personal growth seminars on such topics as career planning, responsible relationships, and study skills. The housing and residence life staff actively support campus activities and community involvement and provide residents with current information regarding activities and programs.
The Office of Housing and Residence Life employs students for a variety of positions in our halls. A brief description of their duties is listed below. If you are interested in becoming a member of our team, please stop by the office, which is located in the Brown Lupton Campus Center.
The Desk Assistants are work study students who, in conjunction with the Resident Assistants, staff the residence hall offices. Their job duties include answering phones, posting mail, and checking equipment and visitors in and out.
Your RA will be the first member of the housing staff you will meet. He or she is an undergraduate (with at least thirty hours) or a graduate student with work-study, who lives on the floor with you. Aside from working the desk and having one duty night per week, your RA plans programs, assists with any needs or concerns you might have, and is a valuable campus resource. In addition, RAs are responsible for upholding housing and university policies.
Each hall has a part-time professional staff member who lives on site and who plays many different roles in the halls. Some examples of these roles would be consultant, resource agent, general adviser, disciplinarian, and educator. The RD supervises the DAs and the RAs, helps develop student leaders, provides specific information about the university and its services, stimulate creative thinking, and help with the implementation of programs.
